Halle Berry And Olivier Martinez File For Divorce; Spousal Support Talks Set At A Later Date
After two years of tumultuous marriage, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez decided to divorce. The couple announced their split Tuesday, Oct. 27. "It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," said the actors in a joint statement, according to CNN.
Berry filed for divorce on Oct. 26; and Martinez filed also for divorce on Oct. 27, both citing irreconcilable differences.
"We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children's privacy as we go through this difficult period."
In July of 2010, Berry and Martinez met in Cape Town, South Africa; on the set of Dark Side. They began dating shortly after. Halle became pregnant with their first child Maceo-Robert, then wed in rustic Chateau des Conde in Vallery, France in 2013, cited by E News.
Halle Berry did not ask for spousal support for both parties. Olivier Martinez has requested for issues on spousal support to be sorted, and discussed at a later date. Both seek joint custody of their two year old son as well.
Martinez is represented by Laura Wasser, Hollywood's divorce lawyer. She handled divorce cases for Heidi Klum, Ryan Reynolds, and Kim Kardashian to name a few.
One of the reasons why the couple called it quits is their living situation. Berry wanted to move to France, to raise her daughter from her previous marriage and son; and to live with her then fiancé Martinez.
Due to ongoing custody battles with Nahla's father, Gabriel Aubry, the actress never was able to leave; Martinez did not want to live in Los Angeles; another alleged reason was Martinez's temper, revealed by People.
This is Halle Berry's third divorce; she married baseball player David Justice in 1993 and singer Eric Benet in 2001. As for Olivier Martinez, this is his first.
