Fans may have a lot to look forward to when “Homeland” season 7 makes its premiere. Viewers were recently overwhelmed with the death of longtime character Peter Quinn, played by Rupert Friend, on the final episode of ‘Homeland’ season 6, titled “America First.”

The previous season ended with lead character Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes, trying to find out where she stands in the world order put forward by President Elizabeth Keane following Quinn’s death. Friend’s character died heroically in his attempt to rescue Carrie and Keane from incoming bullets. Based on the last installment’s final scenes, “Homeland” season 7 is expected to feature a “civil war” between the White House on one hand and the U.S. intelligence community, including the C.I.A., on the other.

After the assassination conspiracy was revealed against Keane, C.I.A. officials including major character Saul Berenson, played by Mandy Patinkin, were arrested. Carrie seemed to form an understanding that Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) might have been correct all along regarding Keane’s vague intentions. Now, Showtime has released a “Homeland” season 7 promo that offers flashbacks to season 6, stating: “Everything has changed. But the threat remains.” The teaser ends with Danes’ character looking unsure as she somberly stares at the White House.

Although the network has not yet unveiled the official “Homeland” season 7 premiere date, the first five “Homeland” seasons made a premiere in the fall while season 6 began airing in January. Initially, the recently concluded installment was slated for an earlier winter release date but was given a January 2017 premiere after executive producer Alex Gansa sought extended time for writing.

Gansa previously opened up about “Homeland” season 7 in an interview with Deadline. "We have some big ideas but we are just at the very beginning of that process…,” he said while adding: “We don't know what story we're going to be telling, whether we're going to be telling a Russian story or an Israeli story or an American story.”

In addition, “Homeland” season 7 could see Carrie’s return to the CIA; Gansa remains certain that his lead character will make a comeback to the intelligence community. Meanwhile, actor Friend believes new characters will be brought on to the new installment. “I haven't been watching it since I've been on. I'm excited to see what they do. Maybe they'll be bringing some new blood,” the British actor said to Variety.

Showtime is yet to announce the official “Homeland” season 7 premiere date. The teaser trailer can be viewed below.
