In Egypt, suicide bombers attack two Coptic churches located in the northern part of the country that killed 44 people. As seen on videos and photos, the incident turned the Palm Sunday services into scenes of horror. Reports also suggest outrage at the government, which led the president to announce a three-month state of emergency.
The responsibility for the Egypt attack was claimed by the Islamic State group, adding more fears that the extremist group is turning their focus to civilians, especially the Christian minority in Egypt. Meantime, a stunned nation watched the funerals for the victims on national TV, with citizens raising questions and doubt regarding the lax security at churches, Times Telegram reported.
Egypt Declares State Of Emergency After Palm Sunday Bombing
A day following the brazen ISIS attacks that killed dozens at two Coptic Christian churches in Egypt during Palm Sunday services, the country's cabinet declared a three-month state of emergency. According to reports, the measure will help the authorities to eradicate the terror network. However, the state of emergency seems to bring no good for some.
According to Andrew Abdel Shaheed, and Egyptian Copt in Brussels, the said measure would only trail people for no reason and be arrested without warrants. Shaheed also added that he no longer feels safe to return to Egypt.
Meantime, the Egyptian authorities are set to allocate $5,530 compensation to the families of the victims, while a period of mourning was also declared by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, CNN reported.
