Ivar the Boneless

It was an epic moment in "Vikings" history when Ragnar Lothbrok was killed off last season to pave the way for his sons to take over the reigns of his legacy. While his sons were able to avenge his death, it did not take long for the brothers' animosity against each other to make itself felt - especially when Ivar the Boneless caused the death of his brother Sigurd in the finale. Now, speculations are that he will be out for blood after learning of the death of his mother Aslaug and he will now go after Kattegat's queen Lagertha.

According to a report by IBTimes, the idea is not farfetched as "Vikings" Season 4 already set up the possibility in Episode 16 entitled "Crossings." It can be recalled that Lagertha asked the Seer if she will be killed by one of Ragnar's sons. The Seer confirms this but it is unclear whether this will be at the hands of Ivar the Boneless, who is Aslaug's  firstborn.

The possibility of Ivar going after Lagertha seems to be the most plausible scenario, according to fans of the show since Ivar has been proven to the most malicious and hotheaded of Ragnar's sons. He is also the most ambitious to gain more power and is driven even more by his disability to prove himself better than his brothers, as proven by his rally to conquer more lands after their victory against King Ecbert in "Vikings" Season 4.

According to series creator Michael Hirst, Sigurd's death by the hand of Ivar in "Vikings" Season 5 will play significantly into the paths that the brothers take in "Vikings" Season 5. Whereas the first four seasons were about Ragnar Lothbrok conquering territories and making a legacy, "Vikings" Season 5 will be about the brothers taking different paths to prove themselves just as worthy a conqueror as their father, Variety reported.

He said that Jonathan Rhys Meyers' character Bishop Heahmund will also figure heavily into the brothers' journey. He explained that Meyers was the perfect actor to play the part of a rootable Saxon hero who was a warrior who could match the brothers step by step. History Channel has yet to announce the release date of "Vikings" Season 5.
