'Boruto: Naruto Next Generations' Spoilers: 'Naruto Shippuden' Spinoff Kills Naruto & Sasuke In Its First Episode?
After 15 years on the air, anime fans finally bid goodbye to "Naruto Shippuden," which to some may have been symbols of their childhood. On the day the finale was aired, the internet exploded with trending topics like Goodbye to Naruto, Goodbye to my childhood, Goodbye to my favorite series ever and similar tags.
For fans of the series like SBS Pop Asia's reviewer Julian Rizzo-Smith, the ending of Naruto managed to evoke everything that was good in the series, including Naruto's evolution from childhood to adulthood. The scene where Naruto asked Iruka to stand as his father in his wedding to Hinata caused many fans to tear up since it perfectly encapsulated the characters' relationship in the series.
However, the ending to Naruto did not seem like a real ending at all since it was announced that Viz Media was gearing for a continuation of the series, "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations " which features Boruto Naruto, the son of the Seventh Hokage.
While the premiere of "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" was much anticipated by fans of Naruto, it may seem that the farewell they bid their favorite Hokage may actually be permanent this time as the first episode of the series hinted that both Naruto and Sasuke were both dead. The show opened with a brief introduction of Boruto as the narrator of the story, and showed a flash forward to his fight scene with his nemesis Kawaki, Comic Verse reported.
What caused alarm for the fans was Kawaki's statement: "I'll send you where I sent the Seventh Hokage, Boruto." The older version of Boruto in "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" also wore Sausuke's headband for the battle which made anime fans wonder what happened to him.
While "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" pilot episode did not bode well for beloved characters like Naruto or Sasuke, it did show promise of borrowing from the strengths of his predecessor, like the essence of becoming a shinobi and finding your way to being a true ninja. The implication that Boruto will be using Naruto's signature eye technique and the seals on both Boruto and Kawaki hint that there will be more to the series before it reaches the final showdown.
