Rumors about Apple going OLED on their next iteration of the iPhone may well seem to become a fact now that it has been reported that the company has tapped rival tech firm Samsung to produce curved displays for their next flagship device. It looks like the two tech giants are at it again this year on who among them will be favored more by the buying public.

It can be recalled in the past that Apple's Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook hinted that the next iPhone - presumably called the iPhone 8, will be a whole lot different than its predecessors. Such is already expected by most tech pundits and fans alike since this will be the 10th year of the handset's existence.

Digitimes has noted that the Cupertino premium device maker has recently inked a $9 billion deal with the South Korean conglomerate as the latter is now tasked to supply the former with curved OLED displays for the iPhone 8 for the next couple of years. This clearly indicates that Apple will be hopping on to the curved bezel-less display wagon this year for their next iPhone.

Per the signed agreement, Samsung will be supplying Apple with an estimated 70-92 million OLED panels this year alone. This means that out of the 200 million iPhone units being rolled out annually, 30 percent of the units that are about to be released this year will sport a curved bezel-less display.

Investors, on the other hand, deemed the yet to be announced iPhone 8 as a "supercycle" renders due to the major tweaks that are expected from the phone. The current versions of the handset - iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are also expected to be getting component upgrades this year. Moreover, market analysts predict a surge in iPhone sales once the new banner phones hit the shelves due to the above-mentioned revamp on its design, StockNews reported.
