South Korean National Assembly Votes On President Park's Impeachment Trial

Korean Former President Park Geun-Hye will be interrogated on Tuesday at the Seoul Detention Center while the prosecution is conducting an investigation into the major corruption scandal which also involves her close friend Choi Soon-sil. Last Sunday, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office said that prosecutors will question her at the said detention facility.

This report came out after the Seoul Central District Court's decision to issue a warrant of arrest for her last Friday for 13 charges. It has been reported that her lawyers already rejected the questioning to be held at the prosecutor's office because of her psychological state and for security purposes. That's why they have decided to do it in the detention center instead.

According to a report from the Korea Times, the prosecutors are accelerating the investigation since there are less than 20 days to collect evidence and testimony before the warrant's expiration on April 19. If this happens, this will already be Park Geun-hye's second questioning after the first one which was held last March 21 before her detention.

Two of the prosecutors who questioned her during the first will be the same prosecutors who will interrogate her again through Lee Won-seok and Han Woong-jae. The decision also included that the former president needs not to appear with her hands handcuffed in front of the cameras like what other suspects have done as reported on Daily Mail.

In the history of Korea's politics, Park is not the first former head of the state to be interrogated at the detention center. It can be recalled that last 1995, Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo also were questioned there. The prosecutors might also call for the other key suspects in the corruption scandal to participate in the joint-questioning.

Korea's Former President Park Geun-hye was charged with 13 crimes which include abuse of authority, bribery, and the passing of confidential information to an unauthorized person in the name of Choi. The former president also insisted that she did not do anything illegal or perhaps order her aides to do so in order to help Choi.
