Suk Hyun-jun is back to join the South Korea National Team as they prepare for the upcoming 2018 World Cup. The Portugal-based striker last played for his country in a friendly match against Iran in 2010.

The national team is composed of 23 players, as announced on Monday. Team coach Uli Stielike hopes that, with the presence of Suk, he will be able to score more goals - mainly what the team has been having problems.

In 2010, Suk started his career as he signed a one-year deal with the AFC Ajax, a Dutch professional football club, making him the first South Korean player to play in the Eredivisie.

The 24-year-old forward has also played for the FC Groningen, CS Maritimo, Al-Ahli, C.D. Nacional and Victoria de Setubal.

The 23-man roster of the National Team comprises players based in Europe, such as Lee Chung-yong, Son Heung-min and Ki Sung-yueng as well as Suk.

"I have long kept my eyes on Suk before he joined Setubal," Stielike said during the announcement of the National team roster. "This was the best time to name Suk."

"We have established the basic structure of the team, but still have a scoring issue, as we saw in the East Asian Cup. Thus, I have called up Suk and Hwang Ui-jo. They will be given playing opportunities depending on how they drill and play with the rest of the team."

Last month, South Korea topped East Asian Cup after beating China in its hometown. However, the team only scored three goals in its matches against North Korea, China and Japan.

Stielike said after winning the East Asian Cup, "There is not one player who disappointed me, and we're the only undefeated team."

"We have young and promising players that I think will be even better in the future."
