'Star Trek Discovery' News: New Cast Members Added, Details Unraveled On CBS: All Access Show
Production is already under way for CBS: All Access "Star Trek: Discovery" and it seems that everything is on track for a 2017 release. Fans continue to monitor the development of the series is packaged as a prequel that happens 10 years prior to the adventures of Captain Kirk and the crew of his USS Enterprise.
The cast of "Star Trek: Discovery" has recently been spotted at James Frain's birthday bash. Frain has been cast as Sarek, the father of Leonard Nimoy's Mr. Spock. Sarek has appeared previously in Star Trek episodes and his character is expected to provide continuity in the franchise. Among the members of the cast who were present were Jason Isaacs, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Obi, Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones and Shazad Latif.
Here are some of the things Korea Portal has gathered about "Star Trek: Discovery." Don't be surprised if producers spring new developments every now and then as Trekkers will definitely demand more information as the show gets nearer to a release date.
Klingons updated look. Early photos from the set reveal a slightly different look for Klingons in the previous installment of the series as they are less bulky and spinier. The change in the appearance is expected to be explained as the "Star Trek: Discovery" progresses.
Updated Logo. When the logo for "Star Trek: Discovery" was revealed last year, it looked slightly different from the updated version, while the second logo looked more polished than the original, it both had a vertical line on the Star Fleet logo on the right side that may signify a tear in the timeline, Trek Core reported.
Cast members. The cast includes Michelle Yeoh is Captain Georgiou of the U.S.S. Shenzhou, Chris Obi will be Klingon leader T'Kuvma, 'The Walking Dead' actress Sonequa Martin-Green will take the lead role as Lieutenant Commander Rainsford USS Discovery. Doug Jones is Science Office Lieutenant Saru while James Frain will play Sarek, and Shazad Latif is T'Kuvma's Klingon protégé Kol. Most recently, Harry Potter's Lucius Malfoy - actor Jason Isaacs was tapped to Captain Lorca of the USS Discovery while actress Mary Wiseman will play the character of Tilly, according to Monkeys Fighting Robots.
Captain won't be the focus. Unlike previous Star Trek movies, the captain won't be driving the story, but rather it would be the character played by Sonequa Martin-Green.
Star Trek: Discovery design. Former showrunner Bryan Fuller said that the design for the new ship is actually based on abandoned design from a Star Trek movie in the 70's. Incidentally, Bryan Fuller's busy schedule prevented him from continuing on as showrunner but he left the show in capable hands of Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and David Semel, Games Radar reported.
