'Winds of Winter' Update: George RR Martin Not Yet Done With Novel; In Talks With HBO For New Series
While there have been reports that George RR Martin has already completed the much anticipated "Winds of Winter" installment in "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga, it may just be wishful thinking. It seems that his recent interviews hint that he may be needing more time to finish the novel.
In an interview with the author cited by Fansided, George RR Martin addressed questions about his writing style and why he's taking so long to come out with "Winds of Winter." It can be recalled that the HBO series "Game of Thrones" which is based on Marin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" books, already finished airing it's sixth season last year. This means that in an unprecedented event, the television series has already aired material that is yet to be released in print.
Martin likened his writing style to that of a gardener who cultivates his novels until it bears fruit in the form of one cool thing after another. "I'm mostly a gardener when I write a novel. I know that highlights. I haven't written them yet, though...and I'm getting from one cool thing to another cool thing," he said.
In another report by the Daily Telegraph, George RR Martin did not directly address whether or not he has completed work on "Winds of Winter." He did admit that he had a lot of things that kept him busy so he needed more time in the day to do everything he is supposed to. Perhaps owing to his age, Martin also admitted that he tired more easily now than he used to.
A piece of good news, however, could be that the author may be in talks with HBO to develop another series based on his work. While he said that he could not divulge any information yet on the project, many fans are hoping that it could be similar to "Game of Thrones." But first, George RR Martin needs to come out with "Winds of Winter" before the fans go completely crazy with the wait.
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 will be premiering on July 16. Season 8, which was announced to have just six episodes, will come out on 2018. Both seasons will be based on the yet to be released "A Dream of Spring" installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire," which should come out after "Winds of Winter".
