An action figure of "Rogue One's" Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) proving that fans almost saw a different ending of the film.

"Rogue One" has gone down to be a box office success albeit being a standalone "Star Wars" film. As the film's DVD and Blu-ray release nears, an alternate ending has been brought up suggesting that the film was supposed to have a happy ending.

It has been revealed that "Rogue One's" finale should have featured an escape scene as it was written in the first script of the film. However, the writers felt the need to kill off the protagonists as they believe that such scene will be more compelling and a fitting end to the crew's heroic cause.

Screenwriter Gary Whitta sat down with Entertainment Weekly stating that such scene was worth it. He added that if one is going to sacrifice their life for anything, they better put it in destroying a weapon that would later kill them anyway. Whitta went on saying that they were hesitant at first to pitch the said idea as Disney might scrap it for being too dark.

In John Knoll and Whitta's first version, it is said that only a handful of heroes survived the Scarif scuffle. The likes of Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), and the force sensitive Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) did not survive the battle.

A rebel ship will then pick up Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and the rest of the remaining rebels off the planet. Whitta stated that the transfer of the Death Star's information happened later on when Leia's ship appeared to help them.

Darth Vader is said to be included in the scene where the Sith Lord chases Jyn's ship while they are in the process of transferring the data. Vader eventually broke in the ship's defenses and later on destroying it. Luckily, though, Jyn's party survived the blast as they boarded an escape pod right before it exploded.

That first version of the film did not stop from there. In fact, later parts of the script suggested that Jyn was promoted to sergeant of the rebellion. Such status was evident with the toy lineup the were rolled out during that time.

Meanwhile, actress Ingvild Deila - the one who helped in re-creating Carrie Fisher's likeness in "Rogue One," described how it was working in the said role. She stressed that she was "sworn to secrecy" about the part and added that she does not have the slightest idea on what character she will portray. Moreover, Deila also highlighted that she felt relieved after learning that Fisher approved of what she did, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The DVD/Blu-ray release of "Rogue One" is slated to come out on April 4 while "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" will be released on December 15. In the meantime, watch a video about the standalone film here:
