First Party developers have no plans yet in developing new lines of games for Sony PlayStation Vita.

Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House admitted that the sales outside of Europe and Asia are declining and not meeting their targets.  Although House said that Sony PlayStation Vita is a legacy platform they don't have any plans releasing a new Vita.

Masayasu Ito, executive vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., confirmed in an interview with the Japanese-language site 4Gamer translated by Dual Shockers that they will be leaving PlayStation Vita development to third parties since first-party studios have no plans in developing new titles for PS Vita.

Moreover, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony's chief of studios worldwide said that "climate is not healthy" for handheld game device. According to Polygon report, he mentioned that developing a new Vita won't happen any time soon.

"I myself am a huge fan of PlayStation Vita and we worked really hard on designing every aspect," he said.

Touch-based games are fun - there are many games with really good design. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different," Shuhei Yoshida added.

Also, Sony announced that instead of releasing new Vita and developing new game titles their focus now is on PlayStation 4. "Currently, first party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita. Since third parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE's own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform," Ito added in a Twinfinite report.

Sony PlayStation Vita sales, reports say, are declining since mobile gaming emerged with smartphones especially in North America. But, Vita is more popular now with younger gamers because of Minecraft game Vita edition.

Sony is more focus now in promoting PlayStation 4 and developing games from PlayStation 3 to make it compatible. Sony PlayStation Vita will continue however it will rely now on third party developers to create new title release for the portable game console.
