Rob Marshall already clarified that Disney's new "Mary Poppins'" movie is not a remake; he called it an "extension." It has been weeks since Rob Marshall and the rest of the gang have been talking about Disney's new movie.

Rob clearly stated that the new project is not a remake of the 1964 classic, according to Cinema Blend. The storyline will be based on another of the books of P.L. Travers which tells the exciting adventures of the singing nanny, Mary Poppins.

"P.L. Travers wrote eight books all together," Rob said. "They worked from the first book, and we are working from the other books, not touching the iconic brilliance of Mary Poppins. This is an extension. I'm a huge fan of the original, and I'm a very good friend of Julie Andrews, and I hold it in such awe," he added, cited by Vulture.

"There is all this new material - it was the Harry Potter of its time - and they were never turned into anything further than that adventure," Rob claimed.

As mentioned, the great director will forever be pleased to have Julie Andrews in some parts of the new movie. Julie Andrews portrayed Mary Poppins, a nanny with a lot of tricks.

"She is a very dear friend, and if she could be involved in some way, it would be very special," he said. "I know she is very happy that we're doing it and, after 50 years, feels that it is time," cited by Slash Film.

Meanwhile, for people who are expecting for the 1964 classic remake will be a bit disappointed. But, for movie makers strolling away from the old avenue is indeed a breath of a fresh air. There has no confirmed release date as of today and further update will be announced in the coming days.
