WhatsApp Latest Feature Allows Posting Photos and Videos As Status Update
Adding a "status" feature may not be new to many social media sites and messaging apps, but to WhatsApp, somehow it is. In fact, the messaging app started out as a way for its users to share what they're up to with their friends. But the recent update is not as limited as before, as users can also start sharing videos and photos.
Before, WhatsApp users can only share on a limited basis such as letting their friends now whether they are available, at work, or offline. But now, the Facebook-owned app has expanded its feature, just like how Instagram and other Facebook subsidiaries have done in the previous years.
This time, WhatsApp will now allow users to post photos and videos for its status updates.
The company says that the recent feature will be end-to-end encrypted, like how its messages are. That means that those who are only able to see the messages are only the parties who are conversing and not and outside party nor WhatsApp.
According to ABC News, WhatsApp Messenger sees the "status feature" as the user's way to "share moments with all your contacts - not just with individuals or groups." However, it will be like the typical "story type" that will expire within 24 hours. A privacy setting is readily available for users to take manage those who are able to see their updates.
WhatsApp, which was initially released in January 2009, has over 1 billion active users. Users are spending a staggering 50 million messages per day, as the company claims and it includes over 3.3 billion of pictures, 760 million videos, and more than 70 million GIFS - the animated pictures that usually makes internet memes.
Considering how many people are fond of sharing daily updates about their life, no doubt, many users will enjoy the brand new feature of WhatsApp.
