South Korean Economy - Presidential Election Campaign Issue

The disaster about Samsung Galaxy Note 7 catching fire is still fresh not only to its users but to everyone who've heard of the incident. Because of this, the brand has outsourced the battery production for its upcoming flagship phone to many manufacturers.

According to the Wall Stress Journal, one of the suppliers that Samsung is eyeing on is its rival, Sony. Although the two are close competitors in the mobile industry, the South Korean brand may first set aside their rivalry just to address the concern it has with the affected Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Sources say that Samsung might add the Japanese tech company, as its provider aside from the Amperex and Samsung SDI. This means that Sony has been contracted to supply lithium-ion batteries for its forthcoming Galaxy S8. However, according to some reports, the orders placed with Sony is proportionally smaller unlike with the other two.

The rivalry between Samsung and Sony is not a secret however, it's also known that the Japanese manufacturer is one of the leading providers of components such as cameras and batteries to other companies that produce phones.

Sony is also accounted for the much-lauded camera of Apple's iPhone mobile devices. On the other hand, Samsung also supplies other competitors with its components.

However, it seems like Samsung will entrust its battery to another provider in the hope of avoiding last year's fate. The Samsung exploding battery fiasco has cost the brand not only money but also its name and reputation. Affected phones were recalled and even caused them to discontinue the production. It was said that the battery issues results to overheating and explosion.

Nevertheless, Samsung and its patrons are hoping for a better phone with minor or no issue at all. Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be released on March 29, while the shipping will take place on April 21.
