2017 Nokia Latest News & Update

No, this is not a false alarm. In fact, it is happening really soon. The "mother of all phones", Nokia 3310 is making a comeback that would spark nostalgia in everybody's mind.

As reported by Venture Beat, the rightful owner of the name Nokia, HMD Global, will release the Nokias 3, 5, and 6 later this month at the Mobile World Congress. It will also launch the beloved Nokia 3310 that will only cost €59.

Nokia 3310, which was first launched in 2000, was known for its superior battery life. Because of this, the modern version of 3310 will be used marketing-wise for smartphones to get longer battery life.

Although it made a huge name a long time ago, Nokia has disappeared behind its competitors, therefore, it's comeback has always been anticipated. This time, it is expected to feature phones and tablets under Android. Previously, HMD has already revealed investing a large amount of $500 million for the next three years just to have the rights to the trademark up to 2024.

The return of Nokia phones was more than just a rumor as HMD Global itself had confirmed signing up a licensing agreement with Nokia's licensing unit, the Nokia Technologies. According to CNBC, this will give HMD the right to use the name and brand of Nokia on devices such as mobile phones and tablets. This will take place on all parts of the world and will include cellular patents.

Apart from this, HMD Global has also gained the rights, until 2024, to apply for the Nokia trademark on Microsoft's feature phones. In short, HMD is the "sole global licensee" for all mobile phones and tablets under Nokia-brands. Furthermore, it will have an operational control over Nokia's sales, marketing, and its branded device.

However, it is important to understand that Nokia itself will not produce the devices, instead, it has just licensed its intellectual property.
