Beyonce faces a lawsuit concerning her new song "Formation" from the Lemonade album. The estate of the late YouTube star and New Orleans Hip-Hop artist Messy Mya is seeking $20 million for copyright issues.
Queen Bey allegedly used the rapper's voice and some of his words from his own materials: "A 27 Piece Huh?" and "Booking the Hoes from New Wildings." The paperwork claim that the diva did not give proper credit or asked permission beforehand.
Furthermore, the official statement also wrote that Messy Mya's lyrics becomes the "seed" of the new song. "They are the defining introduction of the song 'Formation' and the seed from which the entire song grows."
The defendants also argue that Mya, or Anthony Barre in real life, is highly recognizable on those materials. "He was very famous for the line, 'Follow my camera,' as he traversed the City of New Orleans and traveled deeply into the gay, lesbian and transgender communities," quotes the NY Daily News.
Unfortunately, the lawsuit also claims that only Beyonce and her publishers received recognition. The late rapper did not receive any credits or citation from the material used in the song.
Beyonce is yet to give a statement about the latest report. The news also states that the estate's attempt to reach out the other party was unsuccessful.
