"Stranger Things" Season 2 coming in 2017

It won't be long until "Stranger Things" returns for its second season. At the 2017 Super Bowl, Netflix announced that "Stranger Things" Season 2 will premiere on Halloween.

The streaming service also unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming season, opening with an 80's-era TV commercial and showing a hodgepodge of scenes from Season 2. Season 1 of the science fiction aired last summer, set in the 1980's.

The trailer opens with a three-decade-old commercial for Eggo waffles, reminiscent of the final moments of the debut season where Jim Hopper left a box of waffles in the woods so Eleven would have something to eat. According to The Guardian, the opening scene could also suggest the infatuation for the 1980's that defined Season 1.

It looks like the romantic storylines established in the previous season will also continue in Season 2, especially those love affairs that have cinematic references. The trailer features some kids on bikes, as well as a gigantic monster that resembles that in Super 8. As noted by FOX, this could mean that the Duffer Brothers will finally transition from referencing Amblin movies to referencing movies that reference Amblin movies.

One scene in the trailer also shows the lead characters donning Ghostbuster outfits. It remains to be seen if the "Ghostbusters" film will have some influence in the events in the upcoming season.

Based on the trailer, it also seems that Eleven will be caught' up in a spine-chilling situation. In one of the scenes, she looks terrified while Hopper is being blasted by glass shavings.

Fans can expect more movie-grade scares next season, as the clip also shows some sinister figures in hazmat suits, as well as an enormous monster. Since most of the scenes in the trailer take place in the Upside Down, fans of the series can expect their favorite characters to spend more time in the other dimension next season.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Winona Ryder would still be in Season 2 but many were surprised when she did not appear in the first trailer for the upcoming series. In Season 1, the character was always adorned in fairy lights, screaming and hysterical.
