NBA Trade News: The Boston Celtics Are Eyeing Nikola Vucevic From The Orlando Magic; The Magic Wants Marcus Smart or Terry Rozier
The Boston Celtics are looking to find ways to upgrade their roster this season before the NBA playoffs start. Reports show that the Celtics are targeting Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic and both teams are currently in trade talks.
According to a report held by the CSNNE, the Celtics management gave the Magic a call to discuss a potential trade. The Celtics are looking to acquire Nikola Vucevic to increase their rebounding numbers.
Currently, the Celtics rank 2nd on top of the Eastern Conference. Despite the team's success, they found themselves almost at the bottom of the top rebounding teams in the NBA.
The Celtics ranked 28th in team rebounds per game and ranked down below the middle on defense. The team obviously relies on their scoring end since they have an awful defense against any teams in the NBA.
The Celtics believed that Nikola Vucevic is the answer to their issues since Vucevic is known to be a tenacious rebounder, a low-post defender and a reliable inside - outside scorer. If acquired, Vucevic would provide a big help to the Celtics as the team makes their way to the NBA playoffs this season.
Meanwhile, the Magic is said to offer Nikola Vucevic in exchange for Marcus Smart or Terry Rozier. We may recall that the Magic also had some difficulties with their point guard position since their options are not consistent when it comes to the scoring end of the floor.
The WCVB reported that Danny Ainge, Celtics' general manager, seemed to be hesitant to release neither of the two guards. Smart is a very helpful contributor to the team, while Rozier is a potential star for the team in the near future.
Last week, the Larry Sanders joined the Celtics for a workout and still in the process. The Celtics are also rumored to target Andrew Bogut from the Dallas Mavericks and Jusuf Nurkic of the Denver Nuggets.
The NBA trade deadline is approaching and seems that the Celtics' time is very limited at this time. If the Celtics really need an upgrade, they need to do it as early as possible.
