Gong Yoo Bids Farewell As 'Goblin' Comes To An End
"Goblin" lead actor Gong Yoo left a special farewell message to the viewers when the hit series ended Friday.
The record-breaking tvN series closed with a special parting message from the show's main character played by Gong Yoo, who expressed his gratitude for the finished drama.
The actor started off by sharing how unique his goblin character was from the characters he's portrayed before. Gong Yoo also starred in the hit zombiecalypse film "Train to Busan" but his character died shortly after he was bitten and turned into a zombie.
"Because it was a character different from any I've ever done before, I felt a lot of pressure going in. I also felt pressure working with the amazing writer, director, and staff, but with everyone's love and support, we successfully finished the drama," said Gong Yoo.
He also expressed some sadness as he thought about whether he could have made a better portrayal of the character. He touched briefly on how he deliberated accepting this role after rejecting the famous writer Kim Eun Sook multiple times before.
"It wasn't always easy, but now that we're at the end, it's bittersweet on one hand and I feel really good on the other," he said.
He also thanked his fellow actress before he quoted his goblin character.
"Even after knowing, I don't," he said. "All of my time with you was brilliant. Because the days were good, because they weren't, because they were just right, I loved every one of them."
The finale episode of "Goblin" broke the record previously held by another of tvN's series "Reply 1988." "Goblin" scored an average viewer rating of 20.5 percent with the highest at 22.1 percent, according to Koreaboo.
Viewers can still look forward to special episodes on February 3 and 4 that include behind-the-scenes footages, interviews and NG cuts.
The "Goblin" cast and crew will take a vacation to Thailand next month.
