Wonder Girls To Leave JYP After 10 Years

by Chiqui Guyjoco / Jan 06, 2017 05:24 AM EST
Wonder Girls’ contract with their current label, JYP Entertainment, will end this January.

Girl group and band Wonder Girls is reportedly shopping around for other management labels as their contract with JYP Entertainment comes to an end.

The contract for the Wonder Girls will end this month but the four members Yenny, Sunmi, Yubin and Lim have not heard any had any word with JYP yet over their contract renewal.

A source from another label revealed that one Wonder Girls member has approached them looking for a new management company.

"It's true that we've met with one Wonder Girls member for a discussion; however, their contract [with JYPE] has not yet been terminated so it's difficult for us to share our stance," Soompi quoted the representative as saying Thursday.

Another insider close to the Wonder Girls also revealed that the girls are considering venturing into different projects.

"There's one member looking for a company that will support her musical talents whereas there are some members who are looking into acting, MC-ing, and more," said the source.

A representative from JYP Entertainment said, however, that JYP and Wonder Girls have yet to meet and hold discussions concerning their contract.

"Nothing has yet been confirmed about their contract renewals," said the source. "The death of Yubin's father has caused delays in the discussion. We do not know if they're looking for new agencies or not."

Wonder Girls made their debut in 2007 and broke into the American market two years later with their song "Nobody." They released three studio albums with "The Wonder Years" in 2007, "Wonder World" in 2011 and "Reboot" in 2015.

According to allkpop, JYP set a literal reboot by transforming Wonder Girls from a girl group to a girl band that can play drums, bass and guitar with an added fusion of rock into their 2015 album.

Wonder Girls recently created globally chart-topping hits but JYP CEO Jung Wook failed to mention the girl band as part of the top JYP profit-makers in 2016.
