Fans of Hallyu star Song Joong Ki can expect to see more of him again after finally completing the filming for his new film "Battleship Island."

The 31-year-old heartthrob will soon return to the big screen as an independent fighter in the occupation-era film directed by Ryoo Seung Wan, who also directed the critically acclaimed blockbusters "Veteran" and "The Berlin Files."

"Battleship Island" is about a group of Joseon workers who attempted a prison break from a forced labor camp in Hashima Island. The main cast includes "What Happens in Bali" star So Ji Sub and "You Are My Sunshine" actor Hwang Jung Min.

The filming took six months to finish.

"We started in the hot summer and worked hard for 6 months. I wanted to do really well as it's a meaningful production to me and I'm honored that I could be part of a film with the best staff," allkpop quoted Song Joong Ki as saying about the film's production.

Co-stars So Ji Sub and Hwang Jung Min also applauded everyone for successfully completing the project.

"There was dangerous, hard, and emotional filming but I'm grateful and happy that we were able to successfully complete it," said So Ji Sub.

Song Joong Ki's "Descendants of the Sun" co-star and Hallyu actress Song Hye Kyo also cheered the whole crew on. She sent a mini mobile truck filled with snacks and coffee as well as a banner that read, "Cheers to Song Joong-ki and the rest of the 'Battleship Island' crew" while they were filming in Gangwon Province in August.

Song Joong Ki shot to fame in the highly successful KBS2 TV series that aired from February 24 to April 14. He's also rumored to be cast for the lead role of a possible "Train to Busan 2." The production team behind the phenomenal hit zombie apocalypse film, however, have denied such speculations.
