The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is doing massive car recall recently because of faulty vehicle parts that could lead to accidents. Affected car models are certain model year Ford Explorer SUVs and small trucks and cargo vans of GM Korea Co.

The transportation ministry announced today, December 21, 2016, that around 500 Ford Explorer SUVs will be recalled in South Korea because of faulty suspension. This is to ensure the safety of the buyers.

Ford Sales & Service Korea, the local importer, and distributor of Ford vehicles, is said to recall Ford Explorer SUVs produced between January 17 and May 31 of 2014 because of the above-mentioned reason. Around 489 cars are said to be affected by the recall.

The problem with the cars affected is its rear suspension breaks easily, said the transportation ministry. This could be because the toe link in the rear suspension of the affected vehicles are not properly welded, added the ministry. This is very dangerous since the driver may lose control of the vehicle which will put him and others at great risk.

Ford Sales & Service Korea service centers, however, offers free repair services starting next Friday, January 30, for the car owners who opted for a repair. While for those who have already fixed the problem at their own expense, they are to get reimbursement for the repair cost.

Meanwhile, GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co., is also facing the same issue as the transportation ministry is requiring them to recall about 8,500 small trucks and cargo vans for a defective fuse. This may cause the car to lose power by interrupting the fuel injection under certain conditions. The said recall affects about 4,330 Labo pickup trucks and 4,202 units of the Damas cargo van produced between November 24, 2015, to November 21, 2016.
