Asiana Airlines Under Fire For Allowing Injured Pilot Fly
The country's second-biggest airline, Asiana Airlines, was under fire for allowing an injured pilot fly from Seoul to New York last week. The said pilot was involved in a bloody fight with his co-pilot prior to the flight. The airline received a lot of criticism for allowing the said pilot to operate a flight with his current condition, saying that the airline's decision could have endangered the lives of the 275 passengers.
The said fight was between the two co-pilots of flight OZ222 that was supposed to depart from Incheon International Airport for New York at 11 a.m. Friday. The two co-pilots engaged in a bloody fight causing one of the pilots to be pulled out from the said flight for a medical treatment. The other pilot was also injured but was allowed to fly after the company's safety director checked his condition. A substitute pilot was called to fill in the place of the pulled out pilot.
The commotion between the 2 co-pilots caused the delay of the said flight for one hour.
The cause of the fight between the two co-pilots is still unknown. With Asiana Airlines being under fire for such a decision, they have promised to question the two pilots this week. The pilots are to receive the due disciplinary actions, too, for the incident.
Amid the Asiana Airlines being under fire because of the said incident, the company insisted that they have done the necessary action to ensure that the injured pilot is still very capable of doing his job. Asiana's safety director had confirmed that the pilot would not compromise the safety of everybody on board the said flight. They have also clarified that the fight occurred somewhere else and not inside the cockpit.
