Some parts of South Korea were struck by typhoon Chaba last October 5, damaging a lot of properties, cars included. A lot of cars were submerged in the flood water and got damaged in the process. A couple of weeks after that devastating incident, news about typhoon-damaged cars being sold in the market are starting to surface the net which is quite alarming.

These typhoon-damaged cars being sold after dealers of used-cars have them repaired. These used-car dealers can buy these typhoon-damaged cars in bulk from insurance companies. These dealers will then have these damaged-cars repaired to eliminate signs of being submerged in flood water.

Usually, it would take a couple of weeks to a month before these damaged cars are fully repaired. By then, the damage would be unnoticeable. These repaired cars will then be sold in used-car markets at prices twice or thrice higher than the auction price. This is how these typhoon-damaged cars being sold.

Although the damage may be unnoticeable, buying these typhoon-damaged cars is highly dangerous. Almost fifty percent of the mechanical parts of a car are electronic. Having them submerged in water may cause these parts to rust and corrode. This is dangerous since this may cause engine malfunction. Or worse, this may cause the engine to start a fire.

News about these typhoon-damaged cars sold should alert consumers. Consumers should be extra careful in buying a second-hand car as to avoid taking home one of these typhoon-damaged cars. One way to know if a second-hand car is safe to buy is by checking its accident record inquiry service.  This may, however, take some time since the whole process could take as long as three months. But if it means having to be sure you are not buying one of these typhoon-damaged cars then it is definitely worth the wait and the hassle. After all, your safety must be your top priority.
