Yang Hyun Suk Reveals Future Plans for Bigbang After Military Enlistment
Yang Hyun Suk celebrated two events this 2016. First is the 20th anniversary of his agency, YG Entertainment, and second is the10th year of Kpop phenomenal group Bigbang in the music industry.
The CEO and founder said that the journey was hard for YG. "We worked like swans. On the outside we looked classy but behind the scenes, we were constantly working. YG has had a smooth growth, with no slumps. I never think that we should do twice as well as last year. I just want to run the company in a safe way."
The company currently employs around a thousand people not only for its entertainment division but also for other business ventures such as the YG restaurant, Soompi reported.
He looked back to the days when Bigbang was formed saying that YG and the band is already halfway towards their primary goals. He said that he desired a group that will stay strong in the industry. "Even when Bigbang had debuted, the life expectancy for an idol group was about three to five years," he added to emphasize Bigbang's ten-year milestone.
Although fans are worried about the band's career after their mandatory military enlistment, Yang Hyun Suk said that is not his primary concern. He assured that the band can reclaim the spotlight even a long hiatus. "Bigbang's 'MADE' album from last year is an album they releases after three years, and it achieved global popularity. If Bigbang were a young idol group, I'd worry, but they're different. Their talent won't disappear because they've come back from the military. Just like actors that return from duty, I believe that they will have matured and create new music fit for the times," International Business Times cited.
It is speculated that TOP will enlist this year, followed by Taeyang and G-Dragon in 2017, Daesung in 2018 and youngest member Seungri in 2019.
Bigbang returned with 'MADE,' a four series incomplete album last year. The band remains busy with their tour and fan meet-ups in different parts of the world giving them insufficient time to create new music to complete their album. Members G-Dragon, TOP, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri are known for their international hits "Fantastic Baby," "Bae Bae," "Bang Bang Bang" and many others.
