Korean Film ‘The Age of Shadows’ Gets 4 Million Viewers During Chuseok Holiday
The blockbuster South Korean film entitled "The Age of Shadows" got more than 4 million viewers during the celebration of Chuseok holiday in South Korea.
The film about the heroic cops is directed and produced by Kim Jee-woon and starring South Korea's top actors including Gong Yoo, Song Kang-ho, and Han Ji-min. The movie was released on September 7 and has garnered an audience of 4,247,029 as of 8:00 a.m. of September 15 according to the Warner Brothers Entertainment.
During the Chuseok Holiday in South Korea which falls on Thursday, the film drew another 760,647 viewers which made it as the second most viewed film on a holiday. Also, the film will be screening in 40 North American cities next week according to its local distributor.
According to CJ Entertainment America, the film's local distributor, it will premiere in some cities including New York, Toronto, Chicago, Washington, Vancouver, and Los Angeles on September 23.
The movie is set in Seoul and Shanghai during the 1920s. The story is about a Japanese police officer born in Korea, which is the role played by Song Kang-ho. He works as a double agent for Japan until a Korean resistance fighters appeared during the Japanese colonization in South Korea. Meanwhile, actors Gong and Han play the roles of a key leader and a member of a group named "Uiyeoldan."
The double agent film has been invited to several international film festivals around the world including the film festivals in Toronto and Venice. The film was called ""rousing gem without an ounce of fat" by the U.S. entertainment weekly.
Recently, the film was also selected to be the entry film for South Korea at the 89th Academy Awards under the category of Best Foreign Language Film. And it continues to stay on the top local box office in South Korea six day straight after its release last Wednesday and currently attracting more than 4 million viewers nationwide.
