The Pirates of the Caribbean Star, Johnny Depp, will play the role of detective Russell Poole in the movie " Labyrinth" where he will investigate the murders of famous rappers Notorious BIG and Tupac and find out if officers from the LAPD were implicated in them The Guardian reported.

In the 1990s, Tupac and Notorious BIG were the giants of rap culture dominating the east and west coast of the US.

Depp's Los Angeles police detective character will realize after spending months investigating the murder of Notorious BIG (born Christopher Wallace), that apparently "gangsta cops" in his own department carried out the killing.

According to the Guardian that this theory served as the basis for a legal case brought against the city of Los Angeles by Wallace's mother, Voletta Wallace. However, after five years the case was eventually  dismissed in 2010.

Detective Poole's theory has been discredited by some including Los Angeles police detective Greg Kading who investigated the cases on 2006 and said that it was more likely gangs were involved in the murder rather than corrupt police officers.

"Labyrinth" will be helmed by Brad Furman who also directed the Lincoln Letter.

The film is adapted from Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG, the Implication of Death Row Records' Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal - Randall Sullivan's account of the murders and their investigation.
