Amazon Prime Members in London To Get Restaurant Meal Deliveries
Online retail giant Amazon announced that it would start delivering meals from restaurants direct to customers in some areas of London according to a report by Reuters.
Amazon's foray into London's food delivery service will put it face to face against local players like Just Eat, UberEats and Deliveroo.
Amazon's restaurant delivery, however, is not available for everyone at the moment. The company said in a statement on Wednesday that its "Amazon Restaurants" service would be available to subscribers of its Prime delivery scheme and that delivery would be free for orders over 15 pounds ($20).
If a person has an Amazon's Prime Now app, restaurants will appear automatically if the person's area is eligible for delivery.
The International Business Times said that among the areas where the service is available in London are the West End, Westminster, Pimlico, Victoria, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Islington, Kensington, Chelsea, Southwark, Lambeth, Vauxhall, and some more.
The IB Times further said that Amazon's food delivery service launch comes just two months after Uber introduced the UberEats service in London.
For tourists and locals alike the site of mopeds and bicycles bearing the logos of Just Eat, UberEats or Deliveroo logos are becoming an increasingly common sight on London's streets.
Touted as the world's financial hub, London is one of the world's busiest cities and its residents use the services for restaurant meals without having to leave their homes.
