Oh My Girl's JinE Takes A Break From Her Activities Due to Anorexia
Girl group Oh My Girl's JinE is reportedly taking a break from her activities due to her struggle with anorexia.
In an article, Allkpop reported that on August 25, Oh My Girl's agency, WM Entertainment, officially confirmed the idol's short break from her group's activities saying, "JinE is stopping all promotions due to her health condition. First, we apologize for the sudden news to all the fans who gave love to Oh My Girl and JinE. She has been showing signs of anorexia since debut and has been going to the hospital to receive treatment. After a long and thorough discussion with JinE, we decided on a break as our artist's health is first and foremost."
The agency further said, "The remaining 7 members will carry on the upcoming schedules without JinE, however, we will continue to support JinE throughout her break. We once again apologize for the sudden news. Please give Oh My girl unchanging love and attention."
In October 2015, JinE revealed her health condition in an interview with TVReport. During the interview, all the members of Oh My Girl said that dieting was the hardest part of their album preparations.
JinE also shared the reason for her extreme diet saying, "I am usually the type that gains weight easily. During our last promotions, I saw a photo of myself and it provoked me. I wanted to show a pretty side of myself during our 'Closer' promotions that's why I recklessly starved myself and chose protein-centered meals. I, of course, worked out, too. I lost about 8-9 kilograms. But as I ate, and then didn't eat, I developed esophagitis."
Netizens relayed their pity to the idol, some even blaming the agency for her condition. Some netizens commented, "Don't force them to go on diets," "How much the agency must have pressured her to diet that she got anorexia," "Ah... how could it be anorexia. I feel so sorry for her. Is this reality for Korean idols? What's wrong with being a bit plump?" "I knew since the company released three albums in four months. If they can't maintain their singers in any other way than this, then why do they invest in singers like this. So disappointed in WM!" and more.
