Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel

Ashen Ones all over the world can once again prepare to die over and over with their return to the Kingdom of Lothric as the first of the major post-release content for From Software's "Dark Souls III" has now been officially released; the "Ashes of Ariandel."

"Dark Souls III" publisher Bandai Namco released the announcement trailer for the game on the official Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe YouTube channel, showcasing what players can expect when they finally get their hands on the first full-fledged downloadable content (DLC) expansion to the game. Titled "Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel," the DLC is once again set to expand on the already burgeoning world presented in the base game.

Beginning with a short cinematic computer generated sequence, the trailer then moved to showing bits of the new content players can face in the DLC like new locations and enemies. Most interestingly, some of the bosses shown in the trailer carried striking similarities to those bosses already present in the base "Dark Souls III" game; specifically, the Nameless King and the Dancer of the Boreal Valley boss fights.

Other than new enemies and locations, "Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel" will also introduce a host of new weapons and armor as well as new sorceries, miracles, and pyromancies. The DLC will also introduce a new map designed exclusively for player versus player gameplay, the Hollow Arena.

Japanese video gaming magazine Famitsu also covered the DLC, with the content shared on the "Dark Souls III" Fextralife wiki.

Lore-wise, the "Ashes of Ariandel" DLC "Will tell the story of a world where cold snow continuously falls." Players may likely begin their new adventure after meeting with a mysterious contact, who will apparently eventually turn against the players somewhere down the road.

At least two of the new magic spells were also detailed, with one said to be a weaponized version of the symbol of the Way of the White covenant. The circle shown in the covenant's insignia will reportedly become a miracle that functions like a "boomerang." The other is seemingly a pyromancy spell that takes the elements of the new snow-laden landscape, causing the spell to fire off a "cold strom."

"Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel" is the first of two planned expansion packs for the game. The announcement was first teased last week, with various details of the DLC eventually being leaked afterwards. The DLC will release on Oct. 25, and will retail for the cost of about $15 alone or as part of the game's season pass which is already available for $25.
