A young female British backpacker was murdered in a backpacker's hostel in Home Hill, Queensland Australia according to BBC.

Multiples Stabs

The British woman was identified as 21-year-old Mia Ayliffe-Chung died of several stab wounds in an attack that has shocked both Australia and the UK

Aside from the British woman, an unnamed 30-year-old British man also received multiple stab wounds and is now fighting for his life in the hospital.

Police authorities said that the killer is a 29 year old Frenchman who apparently exclaimed the Arabic phrase "Allahu akbar" during his stabbing frenzy.

The stabbing attack happened at Shelley's Backpackers in Home Hill which is well known among backpackers who are seeking to find agricultural jobs which was usually fruit picking in farms

Friendless

According to Steve Gollschewski, Queensland's Police Deputy Commissioner, the murderer had been in Australia on a temporary visa since early March and apparently had no Australian friends or relatives. He also said that the British woman was the first to be attacked. Officers found a knife which is thought to be the weapon the suspect used.

Undetermined Motive

Police told the media that their investigation is still trying to determine the motive behind the attack and they are examining whether it was caused by drug addiction, insanity or extremism.

The family of Miss Ayliffe-Chung's had been notified of the unfortunate incident and relatives of the severely injured British man were also contacted.

British High Commissioner to Australia, Menna Rawlings, told media that "We are working with local authorities and providing support to the families after one British national was killed and another was critically injured in an incident in Australia. Our thoughts are with the families at this difficult time."
