SNSD’s Tiffany Leave Variety Show, Gets Replaced as a Cosmetics Brand Model
It seems like the recent controversy involving SNSD's Tiffany left a hard impact on the singer's career, and things are not looking okay.
On August 18, following the rage against the singer for posting photos on her social media account which showed the rising sun flag of Japan, and after viewers demanded the removal of the girl group member from the show "Unnies' Slam Dunk," the officials of the show officially announced Tiffany's leave from the popular variety show.
Allkpop reported that on Thursday, insiders from the KBS show stated, "The producers and Tiffany's agency, SM Entertainment, discussed her recent issue involving the rising sun flag on the National Liberation Day of Korea on August 15. After the meeting, we agreed the controversy affected citizen sentiments and decided on Tiffany's leave from the show."
The producers also mentioned that the remaining members of the show will continue on as 5 with no additional cast member.
Soompi also reported that Tiffany's agency, SM Entertainment, released a statement saying, "Her withdrawal was decided on after discussing with the show. Tiffany is deeply reflecting on her mistake of uploading a social media post with writing that included the design of the rising sun on National Liberation Day. On the agency's level, we will do our best to take preventative measures to ensure that this sort of incident does not occur again. We sincerely apologize for having caused many people such anxiety."
On August 17, IPKN, a cosmetics brand which Tiffany endorsed for three years, also released a statement telling the public of their recent changes in their celebrity brand ambassador. This leads to some speculations that the model change was due to the singer's controversy. However, a source from the cosmetics company said, "The model change is not due to Tiffany's case. Tiffany's contract expired and we selected a new model a month ago. The photo shoot with the new model already started last month. The timing of the change and the controversy is coincidental and is not related to one another."
In related news, broadcasting company MBN says it will not issue an apology following anchor Kim Myung Joon's remarks in his segment on the August 17 broadcast of "News Fighter." Following the news anchor's comments linking Tiffany to the win of Japan against South Korea in the semis of the women's doubles badminton game at the Rio Olympics, netizens demanded an apology saying that South Korea's loss in the match has nothing to do with the singer.
A source from MBN stated, "While the expressions may have been harsh, the show is one with a satirical tone, which is participated in by the PD, writer, and anchor. We have no intention to apologize or change the report, although there will be further discussion regarding the matter."
