‘Final Fantasy XV’ DLC Packs Makes Party Members Playable
With the September 30 release date of "Final Fantasy XV," the latest and upcoming numbered main entry in the incredibly popular "Final Fantasy" series from Square Enix, inching to a little less than two months away, the news about the game's elements just keep piling in with some new information about the game's downloadable content coming in.
It was previously reported that "Final Fantasy XV" will be making a notable change to the content development system of a main entry in the series proper with developers setting the game for some downloadable content. 2009's "Final Fantasy XIII" was supposed to be one of the first titles in the series to feature downloadable content, but the plans never materialized until its sequels "Final Fantasy XIII-2" and "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII."
For "Final Fantasy XV," the game is set to have a season pass that players can purchase to have predetermined access to a total of six downloadable content packs. In order, the DLC will be a Booster Pack, Episode Gladiolus, a Holiday Pack, Episode Ignis, Episode Prompto, and the sixth Expansion Pack.
The mechanics of the packs were initially unclear, though further information has since been provided on the official "Final Fantasy XV" website with a translation provided by Siliconera. According to the publication, the packs will serve to bring changes to the game's base content like new weapons and playable characters.
For the first Booster Pack DLC, it will function just like the standard booster packs in other video games where getting the pack will give players a host of new items and equipment that will give them a "boost" as they start out their adventure. Meanwhile, the Holiday Pack is set to bring some fluff for the game with the pack likely releasing during the Holiday season as the name suggests.
For the Episode packs however, the added content is a little more substantial as they will actually allow players to control other party members aside from main character Noctis. As each DLC's title indicates, each Episode will allow players to control the title characters in their own episodes.
While there is no news yet as to how the episodes might fit into the game's base storyline, their content will likely be separate from it with the characters being playable solely in their respective episodes and not in the main game.
For the final DLC pack, the description reads that it will make it "possible to enjoy a completely new way to play 'Final Fantasy XV.'" Though the description is unclear as to how it will change the game, an expansion pack is usually a myriad of added storyline and gameplay changes that substantially further expands to the base game's content.
"Final Fantasy XV" will release on September 30. The season pass is set to retail for around $30.
