Lucasfilm New ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Trailer to Release At Olympic Broadcast
A new update about the revival of the "Star Wars" film series came about recently, with an announcement for the highly anticipated upcoming anthology film "Rogue One" slating that a new trailer for the film will be arriving sometime this week.
The official "Star Wars" Twitter account recently shared a post announcing that a new promotional trailer for the prequel anthology film "Rogue One: A Star Wars" story will premiere Thursday, Aug. 11 during the Olympic coverage.
"See the premiere of the new #RogueOne trailer during Olympic coverage this Thursday" said the caption written in the post, which featured a promotional image for the film detailing the tagline "a rebellion built on hope" above the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" title and its December premiere date.
Acting as more of a teaser announcement, the Twitter post did not indicate specifically when the trailer might air. Gamespot suggests that a prime time airing is a good candidate, meaning that the trailer will also premiere on NBC as the networks handles the broadcast of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Considering the likelihood that the trailer's premiere is scheduled such that it can ride on the recent wave of focus on the Olympics in order to catch the attention of even non "Star Wars" fans, airing during prime time is likely.
As for the specific content of the trailer, the footage will most likely build up on the elements already touched on the first "Rogue One" trailer alongside expanding on the other recently confirmed plot elements of the film.
During last month's Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm showed footage of the film featuring Darth Vader to those present at the event. It was previously confirmed back in June that the franchise' most famous character will indeed be making an appearance in "Rogue One," and the James Earl jones will indeed be returning to provide his voice to the character. The confirmation came after much speculation and rumors about the Darth Vader's presence.
For the upcoming trailer, the possibility exists that it might very well be the same footage shown to attendees of the Star Wars Celebration. If not, then new trailer could include the Star Wars Celebration footage alongside even more new footage; meaning that the new trailer could be even longer than the "Rogue One" reveal trailer and, will serve to offer a deeper look into the film.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will tell the story of the Rebel Alliance' struggle against the Galactic Empire prior to the arrival of Luke Skywalker in "A New Hope." The film will star Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, and will also be the first of the planned series of standalone anthology films in the franchise.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit theaters this December 16.
