South Korea's most southern island resort, Jeju Island, is planning to become a hub for cruise tourism. The regional government is hoping to draw attention from foreign cruise ships in order to support their touring industry.

As part of their 5-year plan, Jeju Island will enlarge its cruise terminals and also develop a smartphone app for tourists and an Internet portal site, a report from Yonhap suggests. The government has plans to increase its city tour bus lines and also expand the shopping district.

Jeju hopes to attract foreign tourist, especially those from China, for a total of 2.3 million cruise tourists by 2020. They are hoping to see an income of 1.2 trillion won ($1 billion USD).

"Every effort will be poured into the plan to expand Jeju's capability to accommodate more tourists and boost its marketing with the goal of making Jeju a hub of cruise tourism," Yang Hee-beom, an official in Jeju's maritime business, said.
