Rhythmic Gymnast Son Yeon-jae Wins 5 Titles at Asian Championships
21-year-old Son Yeon-jae of South Korean took home all five individual titles at the eighth Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Uzbekistan on Tuesday. The rhythmic gymnast is looking forward to her chances at the 2016 Summer Olympics Games in Rio de Janiero.
Son Yeon-jae accomplished an impressive feat during the Asian Championships. Son went home after finishing first in each individual category and setting a new career high in the ribbon competition with 18.700 points.
It is the first time in 7 years since one gymnast wins all five individual titles at the Asian Championships. Aliya Yussupova of Kazakhstan took home all five titles most recently in 2009 but also in 2006.
Son is hoping to win a medal at the Rio Olympics in August. If she wins, she will be the first South Korean to bring home a medal in rhythmic gymnastics.
"I am so happy to wrap up this year's Asian Championships with five gold medals," Son said according to Yonhap News. "I will keep training hard for the Rio Olympics in August and will try to post good results there."
