Malia Obama Declaring a Major at Harvard? Interested in Filmmaking
President Obama's 17-year-old daughter, Malia Obama, recently announced that she will be attending Harvard University for her undergraduate studies beginning in the Fall of 2017. The first daughter has yet to reveal what her major would be at the Ivy League institution.
"The President and Mrs. Obama announced today that their daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021. Malia will take a gap year before beginning school," the White House revealed in a statement.
Reports suggest that Malia Obama is interested in becoming a filmmaker. An article on the Daily Mail reported that Malia interned in NYC last summer on the set of HBO's Girls. The year before in 2014, she was a production assistant on a CBS sci-fi drama featuring Halle Berry.
Many suspected that Malia would choose to attend NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for the film program.
Malia Obama is now looking forward to graduating this spring from Sidwell Friends School in Washington DC.
"Malia is more than ready to leave, but I'm not ready for her to leave," President Obama said on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" regarding the graduation. "And I was asked if I would speak at her graduation, and I said, 'Absolutely not,' because I'm going to be sitting there with dark glasses, sobbing."
