Suits' Season 5 finale signaled major changes in show next season

What more can fans ask from "Suits" season 5 finale

The 16th episode of the latest season aired with a bang. The kind of ending that cannot be categorized as a happy one.

The finale did not see the characters walk away from their more preferred result. "Suits" TV series creator Aaron Korsh said everything that the show is known for is gone with the way they ended season 6.

"The original premise of the show is gone," he told TV Line during a recap of "Suits" season 5 finale.

"It's gone in two ways. Obviously, the biggest and most important way is Mike no longer has a secret... and he is going to be in prison. The other way that everything's changed is, everybody from the firm was gone. So moving forward, we decided, 'Let's pick something that's incredibly impactful. Let's shatter everything and see how we, as writers, and our characters can pick up the pieces.' That's what Season 6 is going to be about."

In the finale, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) decided to send himself to prison at the last minute with the support from Harvey Spectre (Gabriel Macht).

He was about to get married to Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) but thought he has to pay for what he did and his fiancee deserves a better man.

The Pearson-Spectre-Litt law firm is also gone.

Massive change is about to grip "Suits" when it returns for the sixth season at the end of the year. Korsh said new characters will arrive.

"Yes, there absolutely will be," he said when asked if there will be new characters.

"With Mike in prison and us figuring out what we're going to do with the firm, there's room for a lot of things that can be different... Obviously, [there will be] new characters in prison. We're going to have new people who are interacting in whatever firm setting we end up landing on. But in addition to that, we're allowing for the addition of some humor back into the show. The last six [episodes], we were very serious. The stakes were very high... We don't have that hanging over our head anymore, so it allows us to tell some funny stories again, which we, as writers, have been missing and the fans have been missing."
