HTC RE Specs: The Camera That Didn’t Give Two Hoots To Intimidating Chants Like 'GoPro Or Go Home!'

When reports about HTC planning to venture into the action camera market first surfaced, almost everybody instinctively reacted to the news with a pinch of skepticism. Many went as far as forecasting an impending doom for what they considered to be a rather adventurous endeavor by the Taiwan-based company.

However, HTC was [presumably] least bothered about all the negative reactions and instead focused on making HTC RE specs as good as realistically possible without compromising on the commercial viability of the product.

The result, by and large, has been positive so far with end-users and critics applauding the overall performance and cost efficiency of the RE cameras.

Speaking of HTC RE specs, the first thing you are bound to take a note of is its rather intriguing periscope/pipe-like design. It's compact and aims to allow the user to just point the device at the target and shoot using one hand only.

The downside to being compact, however, is that the HTC RE specs don't include a viewfinder. In fact, it has only two buttons - one that lets you click images and shoot videos, and another that allows slow-motion video capturing.

Using HTC RE is really simple. All you need to do it point the device at the object you want to click an image on and then press the first button.

Shooting video is equally simple - the only difference is that instead of pressing the button once, now you'll have to press and hold it for some time. Pressing the button for the second time will stop the recording.

The 16MP lens with 1/2.3-in CMOS sensor (f/2.8 aperture) comes with the scratch-resistant feature. While the picture quality is nothing extraordinary as compared to pro-cameras like GoPro Hero 4 and the likes, it is still good enough for most amateur users looking for a camera to keep handy all the times for everyday use.

RE can record 1080p video at 30 frames-per-second and 720p videos at 120 frames-per-second.

Other key HTC RE specs and features include built-in speakers, microSD card slot; IP57 rating for dust and water resistance; configurable time-lapse capture and slow-mo footage; and Android and iOS compatibility.
