‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Update: ‘Sansa Controversy’ Is Necessary, Writers Claim; Arya To Be Blind Forever?

“Game of Thrones” season 6 has yet to start but the Internet is buzzing with news because of two things — writers are now ready to open up about Sansa’s rape and the possibility of her sister Arya’s blindness.

Den of Geek reported that due to the controversial nature of the “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” episode, many fans apparently criticized the plot as unnecessary and gratuitous. In this episode, Sophie Turner’s character, Sansa Stark, was raped by her husband Ramsay Bolton, played magnificently by Iwan Rheon.

Now before the “Game of Thrones” season 6 begins, writer Bryan Cogman responds to the controversy and shared that he believes it is impertinent to talk about the reason behind the subplot, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Cogman reportedly stated that the idea of combining Sansa’s story with that of Jeyne Pool is a way to help her character feel the need to reclaim the family’s home, leading up to the role of a major player in the whole series. The writer reportedly believed that the wedding of Sansa to Ramsay was the perfect chance to show this as in reality, wedding nights are reserved for intimate actions.

Many fans reportedly expressed that Sansa could have at least tried to kill Ramsay after the incidence but Cogman reportedly said that Sansa can’t be like her sister Arya as it will be out of her character.

Speaking of Maisie Williams’ character, there are several spoilers circulating that she might be blind for the entire season as the series need to show her adjusting to her punishment, International Business India wrote. It will reportedly sharpen Arya’s other senses as she continues to finish her kill list.

Reports also stated that Arya may use dead people to kill her enemies, namely Joffrey's face to end Cersei’s life.

“Game of Thrones” season 6 will return to HBO on April 24, 2016.
