Bromance To Romance? ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII” To Explore Oscar Isaac, John Boyega Relationship?
Hype for the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VIII" has made various online sites to wonder whether the bromance between Oscar Isaac and John Boyega's characters would evolve into something else.
The Guardian said that while this could be one of the many possibilities, the "Star Wars" franchise has "never really been about romance, same sex or otherwise."
The site noted however that recent box office hits have featured more modern relationships and updated character archetypes, with a pansexual "Deadpool," a supporting role for "Mad Max" and a black male and a white female in the lead roles of the latest "Star Wars" film.
"And yet none of the above would be half so revolutionary as Star Wars delivering the long-running space saga's first ever interracial gay couple," The Guardian said.
During an interview during the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Boyega himself hinted on the possibility of playing the role of half of the rumored gay couple for "Star Wars: Episode VIII."
Oscar Isaac himself also joked that he played the part of Poe Dameron being open to possibilities of a love angle.
"I think it's very subtle romance that's happening," Oscar told Ellen DeGeneres, as quoted in a Just Jared article.
"You have to just look very closely you have to watch it a few times to see the little hints but there was. At least I was playing romance. In the cockpit I was playing there was a deep romance there."
"There's still a lot of mystery as to how 'Episode VIII' will pick up where 'Episode VII,' and there's more than one way to explore the narratives and linkages flowing throughout the movies," The Lawyer Herald said.
Meanwhile, Game Spot revealed that the "Star Wars: Episode VIII" has a temporary title of "Space Bear," as revealed by Carrie Fisher in a Twitter post.
