Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Specs Reflect An Expensive But No-Compromise Approach To Smartphones
The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is undoubtedly an expensive piece of hardware.
Sony deliberately made it that way because the device had to compete with the likes of the iPhone 6S Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Considering that, quite naturally the Minato, Tokyo-based tech heavyweight had to resort to a no-compromise approach with the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium specs at par with that of the top-of-the-shelf devices in its category.
In terms of build and design, the Z5 Premium is more like a super-sized variant of the original Sony Xperia Z5. 'The flat panes of glass held together by metal sides and plastic-edge caps give it a sturdy composition.
With a 7.8mm thickness and weighing around 180g, the device is admittedly a bit more on the heavier side.
It's fully waterproof - no questionable flaps on the headphone or the micro USB slot like some of the older Z models.
Another interesting aspect about the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium specs is that it is amongst the first few handsets to have flaunted a 4k display.
The 3840x2160p resolution it brings you is far better than most TVs and monitors. Equally impressive is the 801ppi pixel density.
Sony so far has a pretty respectable track record when it comes to the quality of its smartphone cameras and the Z5 Premium is not an exception to that trend. However, the picture quality of the low-light shots seems to be subpar, to say the least.
The primary camera is 20MP. With that into consideration, the not-so-impressive performance under low light condition is definitely to be blamed on its relatively small sensor. There is a way around this inconvenience, though!
As pointed out by the IT Pro, changing the camera app's setting to 8MP resulted in much-improved picture quality. There's a good camera lurking in the Z5 Premium, but it needs better software to bring out its best.
The 4k videos shot by the camera look pretty detailed - all thanks to the efficient digital image stabilization used by Sony.
Other key Sony Xperia Z5 Premium specs include an eight-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB or RAM, 32GB built-in storage (22.5 GB usable) which can be further expanded using the microSD card slot, Fingerprint Scanner, 3G/4G connectivity and 5MP front camera.
The overall performance seems pretty decent in terms of speed and efficiency (although there is some degree of inconvenience due to the overheating issue).
Also, Sony could have worked a bit harder on improving the screen-on battery life.
