New Villain Idris Elba Teases A 'Different Twist' For 'Star Trek 3' Movie
Idris Elba could not hide his excitement for the upcoming "Star Trek 3" movie.
With everything is all set, fans are just waiting for the release date to arrive.
Apparently, playing the villain role to the cult classic sci-fi movie is something the 43-year-old English actor has been dreaming of.
"Simon and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character," Elba revealed to MTV. "You've never seen me play a character like this."
And to further tease fans of his upcoming role, Idris Elba claimed that his character would most definitely give a "different twist."
"I think Star Trek has prided themselves on being quite classic when it comes to villains," he further teased. "He's a guy who wants to end the world, there's no doubt about that. But in this version of the film, there's a slightly different twist to that."
Idris Elba also bragged of his character's "groundbreaking" role in the "Star Trek" movie franchise.
"It's quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But it still keeps with the 'classic bad guy is a classic bad guy' tone."
Additionally, Simon Pegg, who is not only a returning actor but also a script writer also provided details about the movie.
"It was fantastic fun," Pegg told Coming Soon of the sequel's filming. "It was emotional highs and lows all the way because we were under a lot of pressure because the timeframe was a lot smaller than it would normally be."
"You write a film of that size, you usually get a year or so, but I think we started maybe six months before we went into production," he added. "Just under six months and we were already in pre-production, which meant that things had to be designed and set pieces had to be created and the pressure on us to deliver was extraordinary, but me and Doug Jung, together with Justin (Lin) and our producers Leslie, just stood up to it and did it, and actually by the time we started shooting, it had become pretty fun."
"It was tense the whole time, but it was a pretty amazing train set to get to play with."
"Star Trek 3" line-up includes Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as Leonard McCoy a.k.a. Bones, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov.
Together with Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Prometheus), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) is also going to be introduced as a newcomer in the sequel.
"Star Trek 3" is scheduled to arrive on July 22, 2016.
