Korean Rock Band YB Launches A Series Of Concerts To Celebrate 20 Years In A K-Pop-Dominated Music Industry
YB front man Yoon Do Hyun reveals that entering the music industry was not easy for them, especially that the band creates and plays rock music, Korea Joongang Daily reported Oct. 7. However, the rock band made it this far and they celebrated their 20th anniversary in a music industry dominated by Korean pop music or Kpop.
"I never imagined that I would keep playing music in the name of YB for the past 20 years," Yoon said during a press conference Tuesday at Ilchi Art Hall.
The 43-year-old front man started as a solo artist 1995 before he decided to form a rock band. Yoon Do Hyun Band released its first album in 1997. In 2006, the rock band changed its name to YB.
"Rock music still falls into the category of minor music in Korea, but I still root for junior musicians who wish to make rock music, and I'll keep making music for them," he said.
He also revealed that the band is getting positive comments whenever they perform in the country, as well as in some other countries including United States.
"We did busking in the streets of Sindorim [station] yesterday, and I realized why I'm doing music," Yoon said.
Soompi reported Oct. 6 that the rock band is set to release its full album in the US next year.
"We're preparing to make our debut in the United States with a full album in May or June next year. We're also planning to perform a tour," Yoon revealed.
He went on, "As we're not a huge band, when we go to America we'll have to start all over from the beginning, but one way or another we're planning to see results."
"It's difficult to break into the United States, and it will be even more difficult because we're not young, but we're getting ready and trying hard."
In addition, YB prepared a series of concerts for the band's 20th anniversary. "20 Years" concert series was held on October 15 up to 18 at LG Arts Center in Yeoksam-dong.
