‘The Revenant’ True Events: The Bear Scene Actually Happened; Shocking Untold Ending To Real-Life Story In 1824

It could arguably be stated that the most awaited part of the Academy Awards this year is the announcement of the winner for best actor, and if Leonardo DiCaprio will finally get his hands on a highly coveted Oscar for his performance in "The Revenant," a movie based on true events.

Though there are some who believe that Eddie Redmayne could snag the Oscar from DiCaprio's hands for his spectacular performance in "The Danish Girl," several media outfits such as Los Angeles Times predicted that Leonardo DiCaprio could be taking home the best actor award this year.

While counting the days until February 28, many movie buffs who watched "The Revenant" are dying to know the true events that inspired the story of the film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the man behind "Birdman."

Did Leonardo DiCaprio's character, Hugh Glass, really survive a bear attack without anyone to nurse him amid dire conditions?

"In 1823, Glass joined a team led by Andrew Henry that traveled up the Missouri River and the Grand River in modern-day South Dakota," TIME reported, with a 1939 piece titled "The Oregon Trail" as reference. "It was during that trip that Glass was mauled by a grizzly bear."

"The book goes on to say that Glass' 'rage' at having been abandoned 'provided the vitalizing will to live,'" the report added. "Glass set off alone again and arrived at the Big Horn post, where he planned to enact his revenge, 38 days later."

Though "The Revenant" may have purportedly exaggerated the true events for cinematic purposes, the movie's ending may have been the exact opposite of the real events.

"Glass does find Fitzgerald and Bridger, but instead of wreaking violent revenge, he forgives them both," Telegraph wrote.

Despite "The Revenant" veering away from the true events that happened to Hugh Glass in the 19th century, the Leonardo DiCaprio movie still offers viewers a good story with breath-taking cinematic style and technique that only Alejandro González Iñárritu can deliver.
