The New Gold-Trimmed BMW M2 Is The Latest MotoGP Safety Car

When the new BMW M2 was released, critics initially dismissed it as just another bland version of the BMW M3. They couldn't be more wrong.

The new BMW M2, which sports some impressive vintage livery as well as gold trimmings, is the newest official Safety Car of the MotoGP.

According to Jalopnik, the BMW M2 boasts of a 365 horsepower and is significantly lighter compared to its M4 and M3 cousins. The M2 is also available in both the automatic and manual transmission models.

As part of the ongoing deal between MotoGP and BMW, the luxury car manufacturer will supply the former with safety cars until 2020. The latest to join the long list of BMW safety cars is the BMW M2 which are hand-assembled at BMW's M Division.

The BMW M2 MotoGP safety car includes a newly designed front splitter and a more aggressive body kit. It also has a carbon diffuser and sports exhausts. The car has several golden colored accessories like the carbon fiber wing, its wheels, the light bar and a half-cage.

Initial reaction towards the BMW M2 MotoGP safety car was unanimously positive. Some critics cited that should the manufacturer decide to get rid of the light bar and some ads, the BMW M2 MotoGP safety car will make one good road vehicle.

According to Auto Blog, the new BMW M2 has a stripped cockpit which features a roll cage, Recaro racing bucket seats with six-point harnesses. Since it is a safety car, it also has an on-board fire extinguisher.

BMW decided to add a fabricated adjustable rear wing from carbon-reinforced plastic. It is fitted with Michelin Cup tires with carbon-ceramic brakes.

The BMW M2 MotoGP safety car, naturally, is not for sale. However, all the upgrade parts used on the car come straight from the M Performance Parts catalog and interested buyers can purchase those parts.
