Sunderland forward Adam Johnson pleaded guilty for allegedly committing sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16. CNN reported Wednesday that the football player has been charged to one count of child sex, while he shut down two other child sex accusations.

Johnson appeared before the Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday where he allegedly confessed kissing and touching up a minor, Daily Mail noted Wednesday. Aside from being charged with one count of child sex, the professional football player is also faced with one count of grooming a minor.

According to reports, Johnson's case is slated to be opened officially on Friday.

"You may see reference to this in the press but it's the evidence in court that you will gather," Judge Jonathan Rose told the jury, as noted by BBC Wednesday. "This defendant has already pleaded guilty to two offences, you will hear more about them in detail when Miss [Kate] Blackwell opens the case to you on Friday."

Rose added that the two other child sex accusations should be decided to find out whether Johnson is guilty or not.

"It will be for you and only you to determine if he is guilty or not guilty," he said.

The 28-year-old English football player made his debut at the age of 17 in a UEFA Cup competition. Johnson has played for Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Watford and Manchester City before joining Sunderland in 2012.

Johnson signed a four-year deal with the team for $14.5 million. Sunderland manager Martin O'Niell said Johnson is a perfect fit for a team that is looking for quality players.

"Adding quality players to the squad has been our main aim this summer and Adam certainly fits that bill. He has terrific ability, great delivery and I'm sure he is a player who will excite the fans," O'Niell said. "I couldn't be more delighted to have him at the club."

Amid controversy involving the football player, Sunderland refused to give comment on the matter.
