Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith Still Boycotting The Oscars! Janet Hubert Hates The Couple?
Despite the backlash that Will Smith and Jada Pinket Smith received after expressing their intent to boycott the Oscars, the A-list couple is still going through with their plans.
Did Janet Hubert's diss against them affect their stance?
The "Magic Mike XXL" star previously made a splash on social media when she called out the Academy for its lack of diversity in its nominees.
She also revealed she and her husband will not be attending the said awards show this Feb. 28 as a sort of protest.
"We are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments," she wrote on Twitter. "Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment."
However, instead of supporting Pinkett Smith's stance on having more diversity in the Academy, Janet Hubert, who used to work with the actress' husband in "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air," dissed her in an expletive-filled rant on Facebook.
"First of all, Miss Thing," the four-minute video started. "Does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?"
She then proceeded to point out that the Oscars isn't the only problem that Pinkett Smith should be worrying about.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's cause was reportedly too shallow compared to the other problems of this world.
"There's a lot of s--t going on in the world that you all don't seem to recognize," Hubert insisted. "People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills."
In contrast, the 44-year-old actress was supposedly just worrying about the Academy Awards instead.
"It just ain't that deep," she jabbed.
Despite the direct insult at his wife, however, the "Concussion" star still believed that Hubert was "brilliant" as his Aunt Viv (the first one) was.
"I think that Janet Hubert brought a really powerful dignity to the show," he previously told host A.Dot during an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra.
Hubert was also quick to retract her statement, telling the women in "The Real" that she respects Jada Pinkett Smith very much.
Will Smith, on the other hand, was not mentioned.
In fact, she seems to have reinforced her past statements about the feud between him and her that resulted in her leaving the iconic show after three seasons.
"Janet Hubert was never difficult on that set. Janet Hubert was so professional, it wasn't even funny," the 60-year-old actress told the women on "The Real" as reported by US Weekly. "I think Will simply needed to win, and I think sometimes when you get caught up in a lie and those things never happened. She never left the set. I never left the set. We got along great."
