‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ Reboot Set? Original Actress Lucy Lawless Not Included In Cast?
"Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot finally coming? Reports say that the 90's TV favorite is making its way to the 21st century. But here's the catch: actress Lucy Lawless isn't going to be in it?
Back in December, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that a "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot is in the works and that they have hired "Lost" writer-producer, Javier Grillo-Marxuach to write the script.
However, fans speculate that the original "Xena," actress Lucy Lawless, isn't going to be in the remake anymore. This after the actress squashed rumors of a "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot on Twitter.
"News of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage," Lucy Lawless wrote.
On January 2015, the actress said she'd be willing to reprise her role as Xena but only to a certain extent.
"I would love to do a reboot getting Xena, Gabrielle [Renee O'Connor], Autolycus [Bruce Campbell] and Jox [Ted Raimi] back together, get that crew back together to solve some ridiculous problem. I'd love to do a TV movie or a movie, a limited thing," she said.
However, Lawless believes she couldn't handle all the stress that comes with playing a main role in a heavy-stunt TV series anymore.
"I really couldn't live that life," the actress explained to Entertainment Weekly. "I look back, I've got all sort of wear and tear from that lifestyle. That's just what happens to human bodies when they get used a certain way a lot. I actually couldn't do it. I'm 47, but there's somebody great out there."
Despite this, fans are still anticipating who will become Lawless' successor and play this generation's "Xena."
In fact, a "Xena: Warrior Princess" fan created a fantasy cast for the upcoming reboot. The list, which could be seen on Comic Verse, includes Ksenia Solo ("Lost Girl") to play Gabrielle, Jena Malone ("The Hunger Games") as Callisto and Lily Rabe ("American Horror Story") as Xena.
